dog day

i just told wil a few minutes ago… “i’m bored”…not very often do i get tired of the ordinary routine, or run of out things to do, but today is one of those times. while wil watches football, i’ve just been sitting around kind of trying to keep myself occupied. i’m currently in the internet phase that once i check my email, facebook, flickr and the blogs i frequent (that sounds like a lot, but i can sift through them in a snap!), i am done and have no desire to really float from site to site, so i didn’t want to just waste away the afternoon on the computer.
but wil directed me up to the office and told me to write a blog entry.

so here i am. and while sitting here drumming up thoughts, i realized today was a dog day. every once in a while, not by any planning, we’ll have a day that seems to give a lot of attention to the girls. today started with an accidental late wake up, so we missed church (and deciding to go to the 6 o clock service) and lazily got ready. we’ve been having an unseasonably warm october, and today was really pretty to say the least. we had to go to wil’s store for him to do a quick deposit thingy, so the girls got to come with us.

they had their fair share of strangers wave to them as we idled at stoplights, and they watched the happenings of the starbucks/kroger parking lot from the car while we sipped coffee and i ate some oatmeal in the back section of wil’s store (ooo! secretive!)…sidenote: the oatmeal, btw, is really yummy for all your starbucks customers…since the dog park is down the street from wil’s store, we told them we’d go there for a social run around.

as nice as the weather was, there weren’t too many people there, and the dogs weren’t too active. we haven’t been to the dog park in quite some time (definitely not as convenient as the franklin one we could walk to), and it was slightly disappointing that we caught it at an off time. the girls still had fun, and it’s interesting to see their age really affect their activity level…within 25 minutes or so, ava was already laying down in the grass next to us.

eager to get back to his football, wil decided to take all his girls home, so we loaded back into the car once again and made the drive. a quick stop through the walgreens drive thru was great for gracie and ava though, since they got treats from the nice lady behind the glass.

they were exhausted once we got home…even though they didn’t run around at the park all that long, they are just as silly in the car (ava bites the wind), so i think the excitement of the car ride and errands pooped them out. trying to find something to do, i decided to make some dog biscuits. it seemed easy enough to have all of those kind of ingredients on hand…some flour, oats, beef broth and bacon proved to achieve a biscuity kind of thing in a little dog boney shape, so we’ll see what the girls think when they cool down (i’m hoping they like them…these dogs usually eat anything, but ava all the sudden got bored with her food).

hopefully they’ll just sleep the rest of the afternoon…ava is currently spread eagle on the futon…not very ladylike. but right before i came upstairs, they did want to say hello to the internet world:

new room

we added a new room to our house! well, it might be outdoors, and might not have walls, or a roof, but it is a new space for us for us to enjoy this spring and summer.

we attempted last weekend to lay the patio we’ve talked about for a couple months, and it was just not a good day for me and wil…hard, labor intensive shoveling with no light at the end of the tunnel is not good for a marriage. but, with a more positive outlook this weekend (also motivated by the fact that the left side was even more of a mudpit with so much recent rain), we picked up the project again …and knocked it out yesterday.

i think we were both surprised at how well everything worked, without any hitches at all. and to top the evening off, we went back to home depot to get wil the grill he’s always been dreaming about.

the dogs, while they couldn’t hang outside with us while we worked, loved every moment we’d let them out for the bathroom…they were dying at the prospect of getting to experience the new lawn, even when we only had a little sliver of it open to them. the grass was truly greener on the other side for them the last two months. they are overjoyed, to say the least. wil almost shed a tear when he saw them go to the bathroom on it the first time…i’d don’t think we’ll ever have a pristine lawn. : (
anyways- here’s lots of pictures (descriptions when you hover the mouse over the pic, fyi)! (notice the change of seasons in the first three pictures!)
way before...a reminder from end of march

intermediate grass growth from end of april

after mowing, and just before starting the patio

prepping the area

trying to take advantage of the grass

gravel base...with pipes to level it off

almost there!

done! they won't always look this color...this is just wet from the hose

happy girls...now you can see the fence has the other side off- ready for seed!

the whole set with more pictures is here.

boring

oh my gosh- it’s the 28th already? it’s been like a week…well you want to know why? because the most exciting thing that has happened this week is that i moved the dog couch downstairs. yep. that’s the only thing that’s been out of the ordinary routine of our life.

well, i just got home from a regina spektor concert. that’s different. it was pretty stinking awesome, but there’s not much reason to blog about a concert since no one can relate unless they were there. so ok, it was a nice change of pace to go out and do something interesting in the middle of the week (the concert was for my birthday last year…it got postponed from november to now)

but otherwise, i am basically just coming on here to complain about the boring lull we’re in right now. that’s ok. the days aren’t bad…just regular. because of that, all you get from me is pictures of the dogs on the sofa in it’s new location.

paris je t’aime

we just finished watching a movie called paris je t’aime…i think wil heard from someone that he ought to rent it. we put it on our blockbuster list, and after reading more about it (click the link for imdb info), i decided to jump it forty spaces to the top so we could get it sooner.

as soon as the credits started to roll, we both turned to each other and agreed that it was one of the most fantastic movies we’ve seen in a while. the music, the language, the views of paris, and the unique quality of every scene. it made us really long for the city we fell in love with and made us ache to go back and spend more than a couple days. i don’t know about wil, but this movie truly captured my view of the personality of paris and it’s people. we were also very excited to see places we recognized and even stepped foot on.

note: i think bill and leila would especially enjoy this if you haven’t seen it yet.

on a side note, here are the girls…i already liked taking pictures of them, but it seems to be even more fun with my camera and cool lens.

(i still have my fingers even though the piranha almost got them)

sitting on the couch together

ever so often gracie works her front paws onto our lap, basically getting half of her body onto the couch. (more often with me because i am too soft with the dogs…) this time wil allowed to have a few moments of snuggle/watching tv together… (sorry for the lack of quality of images…they were quick snaps with the webcam on it’s lowest settings)

kisses
