costco lockout
we are very excited to be housing mom and dad (and dena and molly and the kids) for cassie’s wedding this weekend. being that mom and dad didn’t really want to sleep on gracie’s lumpy futon, we decided to buy a mattress set and turn our guest room actually into a guest room.
the night started with me meeting wil and tom at costco…they were borrowing a friend’s car to rope the mattress to (with a rack on top). within minutes of their arrival, they lock their keys in the car. ok, not too good of a start. that’s ok, renee (the lender of the car) was surprisingly happy to drive her spare key down to us while we shopped for the mattress.
we buy the mattress set and hang out outside while renee is on her way. i run to taco bell to bring back food, to come back to both of the boys laying on the mattress on the flat bed cart in the middle of the parking lot. ha. (why is it that boys will not sleep in the same bed at the same time, but they can both lay on a plastic wrapped mattress?) thankfully it didn’t take too much time for renee to make it out to let us into her chevy so we can start loading the mattress.
well, within 10 minutes or i go to roll my windows up as it’s starting to sprinkle- i reach in through the window, put the keys in the engine to turn it on enough to roll the windows up. i pull the window lever, forgetting that the window automatically goes up the whole way, so i quick pull my arm out to not get cut off and i unknowingly watch the window roll up and close…locking the car, with the keys in the ingition and my purse on the seat. the boys can’t believe what i did when i squeal about what just happened.
since we at least had access to the chevy, we loaded the mattress with hundreds of pieces of twine (and i am not exaggerating when i say twine…let’s just say we took the back road home) and made our way to the house, fingers crossed that we wouldn’t be locked out of the house, since renee was using wil’s keys and my keys were a bit preoccupied. lucky for us we still have the central oregon mentality ever so often and we leave doors unlocked.
we dropped the mattress off, made the trek to costco once again, jumped my car (remember, all the lights were on) and gave a sigh of relief that we were in both cars once again, we had bought the mattress and we made it home…it only took 4 hours… : )
