moving

it’s happening…we’re moving.

this week started as a buffer week between getting back from hawaii and the big move. we planned on spending evenings here and there to keep packing and getting the new house ready (nothing major yet, just painting, cleaning and bringing over a box or two) in preparation for a move over the following weekend.

well, it’s thursday and we’re almost completely moved in. on a whim tuesday evening, wil decided we would do the big move with the uhaul yesterday and today since he wouldn’t have the weekend open and he already was scheduled off these two days. after a late night on tuesday (and early morning the next day) we painted the two spare rooms and steamed the carpets.

yesterday, i came home from work to find gracie sitting in a practically empty condo (she thought it was great to run around in there)…wil had taken a good portion of the furniture over, with the help of a couple friends. i joined later that evening to finish up some painting and to set up a few pieces of furniture here and there.

we definitely were not prepared to do the full move this fast, as we only had about half of the condo packed and ready. we’ve got a ton of little stuff (not to mention our entire kitchen and closet) to move over the rest of the week/weekend. but, it’s pretty awesome to see our stuff in a real house. it’s starting to feel more like our home, and i know it will when we get more stuff put away and set up. it’s a great refresher for our furniture too…i’ve lived with most of this stuff for 4 years, and somehow seeing it all in a new house made both of us love it again. i can’t wait to add some new pieces to the mix and live in a really complete home!

as for fixing it up, we’ve only painted two rooms thus far as that was the only thing that really needed to happen right now…our plans include tiling the master and guest bath, changing light fixtures and faucets here and there, and the whopper: a new kitchen. having a smaller down payment than we had saved for, we’ve got some extra money on hand that we are excited to use for new cabinets and counters. it will be a long process that we have only just started, but totally worth it for us to live in, and to resell a couple years down the road.

i hope we are closer to being settled in about a week, so hopefully i can take some pictures…of course, they won’t be complete “after” pictures as we won’t have any of our new stuff quite yet.

oh, and gracie’s take? she LOVES the yard…she already loves being able to run around and sniff outside. the inside? not so much…she’s totally afraid of the hardwood floors… if you walk through the room, she watches you from the doorway, and if she does decide to walk though, she walks along the walls. in due time…

hawaii photos

well, i have been sitting at the computer for a few hours today and again this evening…loading photos onto the computer, filtering through them, editing some here or there and uploading the good ones to flickr. it’s a suprisingly slow process but i think i’ve reached the end!

so if you’d like to see what we’ve got so far- here’s the link to the set, in a nice slideshow form (if you’d rather browse through the normal flickr format, just click “back to your hawaii set” on the top left):

hawaii photo set

put on a nice recording of a ukulele in the background and enjoy (there’s about a hundred)!

back

so, we’re back… and im sleepy. I pulled an all nighter last night because we got home at about 130am and i had to be at work at 5am; since we were still on hawaii time, neither of us were tired. No big deal, i’ll sleep after work.

So, the pictures are freakin’ huge and probably take a long time to download… sorry about that. They were just so we could open up some space on the camera and still have those pictures on our server. I just thought it would be nice to give everyone some access to them. We’ll post loads of pictures in the next few days that are normal sized and whatnot.

You’d think that we would be relaxed after our vacation, but we have SO much to do! We have to move into our new house this week, find time to pack everything, spend time with our dog that we miss so much, find time to go to work every day and post fun things on our website for all of you to enjoy…. sheesh!

It’ll be a fun week… especially since i have wednesday and thursday off, so i can get some stuff done on those days.

Keep an eye out for some great hawaii posts to come!

hawaii

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that kris and i are having a great time in hawaii relaxing and visiting with my family. We’ve taken loads of pictures but don’t really have a lot of time to post them. We are uploading them into an open directory so that we can empty out our camera… feel free to look through them. We’ve already taken about 200 photos after only 2 days! We’ll see you in a week or so!

Hawaii Pictures!

Update: This isn’t the format that we’ll be posting them at the end of our trip… this is just so we can clean out the camera and take more photos! The pictures are stinkin’ huge (we wanted to save the original files)… most browsers will resize images to fit the screen… check your browser preferences to check that.

address change

Well, kris and i will no longer be taking our mail at the condo. Our address has officially changed!
300 Harwich Ct. Nashville, TN 37211 (im pretty sure)

Within my already hectic day yesterday, i sat down with my real estate agent, the homeowner, his real estate agent and 2 representatives from our loan company and signed my life away. …im still trying to recover from writer’s cramp.

It was pretty cool, though. Once it was all over, i was handed the keys and garage door openers, it was a pretty exciting moment. We had to sign everything while i was at work, so i had quite the fan base watching from behind the counter and high fives all around when i got back.

I’m excited to start moving everything over there when kris and i return from vacation. We’ll start making it our own.

Aloha,
-wil

progress

We’re making progress on the house… sort of.

Tomorrow was supposed to be our closing day. We took the day off (so did the homeowners) so that we could attend and get it done! Too bad we are having problems with our underwriter and won’t be able to close until wednesday, thursday or friday!

Apparently this lady (the underwriter) has a reputation for being the most stubborn person ever. She keeps changing her mind on what documents are needed and can’t keep track of the ones that she already has. Because she is doing this, there was no physical way for us to get all the documents to her in time to close tomorrow.

We are bummed, the homeowners are upset and it’s all kind of a mess right now. I spent the entirety of my day (even while at work) working to find out what was still needed and getting that taken care of and sent in so that we could close before the end of the week (when we leave for hawaii).

To make things more complicated, kris will be gone in atlanta with her work from wednesday through friday…the tuesday closing worked perfectly until we were unable to close then. All of the sudden we had to get a power of attorney drafted so that i can sign for kristen when we close on wednesday (or whenever it may be). We get to wake up early tomorrow to have a notary witness us signing this contract, before kris goes to work.

Last i heard, we had all of the documents needed and we will be able to close on wednesday morning (at my work since i will be there). I will call our broker tomorrow morning to make sure there is nothing left.

I want to send out a special thanks to Shiloh for getting the 3rd copy of my verification of employment together for the lady; and thanks to my family in oregon… who graciously spent much of their time (on vacation) helping kris and i out.

It looks like we’ll actually have a house soon!

Kris and i have done a lot of planning when it comes to things we want to repair/upgrade, and where we are going to put everything. I’ll let her post info about that… considering it is what she does for a living and everything…

gracie’s gifts

gracie got some gifts in the mail a bit ago, and only now did i get myself to put some batteries in the camera and film her opening the package from tyler and jessica.

*note: within 30 minutes of my going upstairs and working on this video, gracie had eaten about half of the green one. : (
