for me, it is a worry of the past…
lately, one of my favorite games to play is ’see how far i can go on one tank of gas.’ this game is great fun and let me tell you, i am in the midst of a record here. i filled up my tank exactly two weeks ago today. i drive my car to work about five times per week, and on the other two days, i run errands and find things to do around town. today i took a snapshot of my meters in my dashboard and take a look for youself:

if it is too small to read: i have driven 75 miles since i last filled up, and my gas meter reads ‘full’ … still. my commute to work is so short that i use up virtually no gas driving to and from. it is one of the greatest feelings knowing that i only have to fill up my gas tank once every 4 or 5 weeks! and not only that, my tank is so small that it only costs about $27 to fill it up from empty to full!
even though my little civic is old, it does me well and saves me money every month. in my case it is exceedingly true that the cheapest car to own is the one you already have…

well, similar to wil’s site… over a week has passed and there has been nothing to speak of. i guess that’s what happens when all we have to talk about is just each other, and neither of us have been up to anything recently.
as of right now i am in the thick of my thesis (actually, not quite since i haven’t even started writing yet!). for some reason i have had the hardest time getting myself to actually work on this project. one day after another goes by and i just can’t get motivated or inspired to work on the researching, compiling and writing of this thing. and not only do i have a paper to write by the end of the summer, but i also have to find a building in nashville, gather all the information (architectural plans, photos, codes, etc) and be happy enough with it to spend the entire next term working on it.
maybe it’s because it’s the summer, i’m newly married, or just lazy, but sitting down and doing this is like pulling teeth. plus, it’s so self driven that the class doesn’t meet all the time, so i don’t really have the accountability or weekly deadlines. now past the point of “pressure” from my procrastination (nice alliteration!), i am honestly just scared for myself. to combat the fear and light the fire under myself, i have made myself just work as hard as i can to get some stuff accomplished tonight. i’ve done pretty good so far this evening, starting at 5 and not even breaking for dinner (unless you count a bowl of ice cream as a well-rounded meal), until now. and don’t you worry, i promise to get back to it.
i’ve set up camp in the office (wil’s working for the night) and have spilled over onto everything. got my note cards lined up by subject matter (credit to mama d!), but the books are sprawled and papers are flown. it’s madness i tell you!

okay, sorry it’s been a while since my last update.. i just haven’t had much to write about lately.
as many of you know, i have moved into a new store with my job. i now work at the starbucks in downtown franklin (5 points), instead of the store in west nashville. I am becoming more and more a part of their team, especially with some recent occurances.
Last week, Shiloh (my manager) appointed me in charge of an order, and we talked about strategies we would attempt in order to devour this feat. I pretty much handle all the paper products that come into our store… which is quite a load!
Not only that, but Shiloh has talked with me and the other supervisors about promoting me up to my old position. (when i transfered stores, i wasn’t able to keep my title because there was no room for another supervisor… at the time). I will be promoted at the end of the summer when the spot opens up! I enjoy the new responsibilities, even if they are ones i have had in the past. It’s nice to have a change of pace.
This new store is great. It’s a small store with a much lower volume, so there’s a lot more time to spend with our customers. So far, i love it, and i don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Enjoy your saturday,

i woke up and all my hair was gone…*
*disclaimer: this statement is in fact, not true. ok, so i woke up, and all my hair was gone, but i happened to forget a few steps in between. i had been wanting to get my hair cut for a while (even before the wedding i figured i’d get a cut after the honeymoon), and after a couple weeks of this tennessee heat, i couldn’t handle the length of my hair much longer. i was basically wearing my hair completely up every day…even with ponytails i was burning up!
i was in the process of trying to get an appointment, and instead of calling and leaving a message again at the downtown salon, i placed my faith on getting an appointment by walking in and making one. after crawling out of bed and discreetly telling the half-asleep man next to me i was “running an errand” and ran out the door into the rain.
well, one thing led to another and wouldn’t you know…the stylist had a spot open right then to cut my hair! a wash, snip and dry later, i was a new woman. i had really wanted to get something fun and different- i’ve almost always had a plain straight haircut, whether long, medium or short, so it was time for a change. my stylist was great and knew exactly what to do to give me what i wanted. i couldn’t be happier!
i now am the wearer of a short do, with lots of layers and chunks, with the front being a bit longer than the back for some funk. i love my hair, and wil does too. i will say, when i walked in the door an hour later (with him still groggily asleep) the only thing he could do was deliriously sputter (in a good way of course) “what?! wait…it’s all chopped short!”

here are my troubles lately, and they’re driving me insane!
1 - i’m having trouble sleeping at night. i just can’t seem to get comfortable, i’m never tired at the right time, and it’s so stinkin’ hot!
2 - my heartburn/acid reflux is killing me! i can’t keep it under control and zantac doesn’t seem to be working right now. i think i need to see a doctor. the acid burns my throat and just hurts. i am doing everything i can to keep it under control (less soda, no food late at night…) nothing seems to be working
3 - my electric razor is almost out of battery life and i left my charger in san francisco (oregon actually)… looks like i’m going to have to start shaving the regular way again…
a positive post will come tomorrow… i got a new cell phone (after 3 years of holding out) and it’s way cool!

our recent purchase from ikea. yay! i now have such a nice view from the computer desk, instead of stacks of books all along the floor- who knew we had so many books between the two of us? next purchase…a futon against the right wall, for those of you who want to come visit; yes please come!
we had a great time in atlanta on saturday, but a very quick time. we were going through our stops so quickly that we decided to just bag our hotel reservation and drive home that night (we thought it might be kind of nice to save some dough since we were spending so much). wil and i really enjoyed the day though…after an early rise we hit the road. we shopped at all my favorite stores: ikea, crate&barrel, and cost plus world market. it was hard to walk around the stores and limit myself to only the amount of money on our gift cards!
another thing i was so glad to do was stop by the high museum of art. as much as i love art, i really just wanted to see the building, designed by a recent favorite architect: richard meier. we were able to walk all over the grounds and take lots of pictures (in our photo album) in between our shopping. it was awesome to be able to actually see a building in real life, whereas most of my opinions of architecture is based off of books and photos.
after our car was filled with gas and goodies we made our way back to franklin. we got home so quickly that wil had time to set up the shelves, while i put together some lamps and a table. i love making this condo our home!
