complaint department

could construction be any more irritating?

our condo development is currently redoing the siding on all the buildings (yay!). it’s a great improvement, as the old gray/blue wood siding was starting to peel and rot in many places and it just looked shaggy. we will soon have an updated look with light taupe siding and fresh white trim.

but to actually go through this process is such a thorn in my side!

  • first it started when they ripped out half of our patio a week ago, so that you can see directly through to our neighbors very messy patio and door, and people have a clear view through our sliding door (luckily we have curtain).
  • now, the last few days there have been 2-3 workers ripping off stuff and hammering in new siding. it feels and sounds like they are hammering directly into my head, ALL DAY. they pound so hard that a candle actually slid off of the shelf above the tv onto the floor. i decided that this is probably what it feels like to be a fish, when people tap and knock on the glass of their bowls.
  • in order to put the new siding up, they have had to rip everything extra off…lights, our mailbox, etc. i have no idea where my mailbox is and if we’ve even gotten mail in the last two days. i doubt the mailman knows where it went either. they loosened our cable box also, and let it dangle along the wall, thus cutting out our internet and tv for a day and a half.
  • when i need to escape, i can’t because their trash and equipment are strewn about everywhere in front of the door. and their ladder is right in front of the door, so i have to ask one of them to move everything everytime i want to leave, so i don’t swing open the door and knock him off.
  • they also seem to have gotten very comfortable here the last few days, and so i not only get to listen to pounding as i sit at the computer, but also to their whistling and excited conversations between one another…which i can’t understand.

i miss having the blinds open and seeing the world! oh well, our outside wall is only so big. i hope they finish up soon. my one worry: we will possibly have new windows installed in the future, so we might have to go through all of this again…

p.s. happy summer solstice!
