wedding gift
disclaimer: i do realize how much of a freak i am…
so i received my most favorite wedding gift ever (and maybe regular gift of all time)…
at work my boss asked me real quick to go on an errand with her. after asking, i found out we were going to ‘lumen’, an amazing lighting store that we purchase shades, and finials from, as well as have rewiring done on antique fixtures. this store is one of those stores that i drool in every time i go in. it is literally filled with lamps; you cannot see the walls as they are covered in shelves from floor to the ceiling stocked with lamps of all shapes, sizes, colors and styles. it is actually quite difficult to manuever through because there are so many lamps that you have about a 2 foot pathway meandering through the sections. as you approach the back desk you are greeted by a number of stacks of lampshades, all about as tall as me.
well, to my surprise, as we are getting out of the car she tells me we are going to pick out a lamp that i want. she said i could get any lamp i wanted for our house. for me! talk about a kid in a candy store. and even cooler is the fact that because we work with this store we often take lamps and shades out on approval. instead of pick one and hope it works, i got to take three home to try out!!!
i was definitely a happy camper as i drove home with three guests in my car- totally unique, funky (and expensive) lamps strapped into the buckles of the three extra seats of my car.
of course, wil wasn’t too sure about my taste (he didn’t like any of them) but i absolutely adore the one i chose. so here are the three i picked out… with third place… a small rectangle lamp with veneer of horn. it looks like tortoise in real life.

second place was a tall heavy lamp made of what i was told is jade with a large drum shade…

and the winner is…a cream glass and metal lamp (on acrylic base) with a curved cylinder shade. the balls of glass have this neat grain of white through them, which looks great with it turned on. it is officially in our future master bedroom (on the big dresser) so i can look at it every night i go to bed and every morning when i wake up!
