it’s a doozy

get ready…lots has happened since last time. here i complained about nothing happening in my week and then bam- everything all at once!!!well, i have to say i have become quite the social butterfly the last few days….flitting here and there and everywhere for three nights in a row. phew! i am pooped.

thursday night was the kick off of a antique/art/jewelry show put on by my boss and her three sisters. although the show will last for about a week, thursday was the first night- a special sneak preview and sale for clients, friends, etc. of the 4 women. from 6-9 i sipped wine, munched on cheese and chocolate covered strawberries, and rubbed elbows with nashville’s wealthy wives while classical music floated through the newly remodeled historic house. it was interesting, but really neat since i got to finally meet many of our clients who i had spoken on the phone with so much, yet never had seen face to face.

friday, i came home from work, and quick changed into another outfit for yet another cocktail party, put on by our school sga. after solving girly wardrobe issues with my friend cassie, we headed to “cj’s off the square” as each other’s dates. although raining a bit, we arrived at a neat house that was a converted art gallery, and then on to the tent out in the back gardens. we had a blast sitting and chatting all night around a table with a favorite teacher and her husband and a girl who works in the office (again sipping more wine!!!). topics of architecture, school, macrobiotic diets and other very intellectual topics passed around between the 5 of us and caused the night to fly by!

since i knew i had a big day ahead of me, i went to bed right away…and then the alarm rang at 7:30 am…on a saturday. i had so much cleaning/errands to do by the upcoming shower that night that i knew i had to start the day early to get everything done. now, i love my sleep, so getting up this early is a major feat- especially on a weekend. much to my confusion, as i was throwing some work clothes on, i kept hearing a long steady woosh sound ever so often, outside. as i walked out my front door there were two huge hot air balloons right above my building floating through a pristine blue sky. it was a perfect greeting to the day!

hot air balloons

i was non-stop on my feet cleaning and organizing the house. most of it was because of the guests i would have over that night, but most of it needed to be done anyways…the remnants of combining wil’s stuff and my stuff into one house. well, 7:30 came around and we ate some food, sipped more wine (man!) and chatted it up with wil’s roommates, my work friends, wil’s work friends and a few others here and there. i put an album together of the evening…unfortunately we forgot about pictures until about halfway through, and being an open house, some of the people had already left.

overall it was a great night…getting to show off our house which we are loving so much, relax and mingle with friends and open a few gifts in the end! the highlght of the night, and the source of most of the entertainment was our unique guest book…cassie, who threw the shower wanted to give us something a little more interesting and personal to record who came…she set up a canvas under the stairs and each person was responsible for painting whatever they wanted in any square. later, she’ll finish it up by filling in the leftover squares with some color, gving us our very own “mondrian” look alike.

p.s. on top of everything else i did, i had lots of work with rendering, school assignments and my mural. i just don’t know how i’m going to make it to the 11th with everything done in time. i am stressing!

forever

i don’t get email any more.  it’s now only hate mail.  i’m not saying that i don’t deserve it, however.  i know that i do; it’s been nearly a month since the last time i updated.  my sincerest apologies, really.

well, as the usual excuse goes after such a drought in postings, “i’ve been insanely busy.”  …yep.  here’s what’s gone down in the last month:

-i became a vegan for 2 solid weeks and posted on a livejournal page (more on this later)

-i have moved nearly everything out of my house and over to kristen’s house (i’ve got a mat and a sleeping bag on the floor)

-kris and i sold both our beds, some dishes and appliances at a garage sale and lived with her house as a complete disaster for a solid week.

-we moved her stuff into the other room (after much painting and setting up)

-we set up our office in her old bedroom

-justin (a groomsman) came to visit

all of this took place while both of us are dealing with school and work.  it may seem that all of this has been a nag, but truthfully, it has been quite enjoyable - all of it. (except maybe the school part)  we have really enjoyed setting things up in the house and making it ‘ours.’  aside from that, it looks really good too!  once the move is complete, i will be sure to add a very large photo album which shows the progress - keep an eye open!

vegan thing:  my project has been going smoothly, except that i am at a creative standstill when it comes to writing the actual paper.  i’ve got journal entries, pictures, videos, interviews, research… it just hasn’t all come together yet.  i’m giving it time and space; i’m finding that sometimes i just need to dwell on it while going about other business and eventually i’ll come up with something.  once my paper is completed, i will create a page that documents everything and shows pictures, journal entries, … you get the picture.

just has been here in town for the last few days.  it has been a blast seeing him!  we have visited the town and seen the sights!  justin, kris and i went into nashville tonight and walked all over the place, ending up at an irish pub, having some beer and singing to some great acoustic irish rock!  it’s been great having justin and i share our time this week and i can’t wait to spend more time with him this spring in oregon, before the wedding.  he is a great friend and i love him a lot.

i’ve done what feels like a lot to the website tonight.  i’ve began the process of deleting the forum and i did this for 2 reasons.  1 - nobody used it.  2 - some strange people were registering, people i didn’t know and wouldn’t respond to my messages and emails; that kind of creeped me out a bit.  i am working on how to add comments to the website and it may take some time, please bare with me.

i pray that everyone is doing well and i assure you that i will post more often than once a month.  i love and miss you all.

another thing

if any of you have never seen wil’s site, check it out.
www.simpleclosure.org
he posts usually about once a week or so about what he’s up to (or us). he also sends out a quick email to those “regulars” that want to hear about updates. be sure to email him and be added to the list- if you have a site or space of your own, he’ll love to put that up on his links page!

justin

much to my utter sadness, i found out today from wil that a ton of pictures that we took last night were accidentally deleted off of the camera instead of uploaded… that is the most depressing news of the morning.
forget the news of the world…the wars, crimes and car accidents. my photos are gone; never to be recreated. let us take a moment of silence.
ok, so i may be exaggerating, a bit. they are actually gone though, and i am very sad, but i guess it’s just to challenge me to write about my experiences so well that you have your own pictures in your head.
on to the actual blog…as mentioned previously, justin came to town to visit wil (and me). while i was at school and work, the boys played. wil had most of the nights off, as well as a mini easter break from school- luck-ee! but when i was around i had a blast as the three of us…probably the best was last night. justin couldn’t possibly have come to nashville without experiencing the city, so the three of us trekked up and down the strip and painters alley…passing one music club after another, each with loud, live country music pouring out the windows onto the streets. we showed him the big stuff: the gec, country music hall of fame, and the ryman (original opry), along with the equally important smaller stuff: authentic western wear stores, sun records store, and the bluebird. after much walking and milling we landed in a pub named mulligan’s; wil had actually celebrated his 21st there.
seated at one of the first tables in there before the crowd, we just sat and talked and munched on “irish” nachos (potatoes). later an acoustic trio of guys went up and played irish music and the three of us found ourselves banging our glasses on the table and singing loudly along. and don’t worry…while wil and justin had some pints of guiness and tried what is called a “black & tan” i sipped my water down. (not like i wanted to get anything or would even be allowed to!!!). but being the silly kids we are we did have a great picture of wil and me, with pints in both of our hands.
i guess it all sounds a bit sacrilegious to go out to a pub on good friday, but we did have an awesome communion service at church a few hours before…. but for some reason it feels funny to be describing both in the same post.
anyways, justin had a early morning flight today (glad i didn’t have to be the one who got up at 4!) so last night i said my goodbye. i am so glad he got to come out here. it’s not like tennessee is the most convenient place to get to!

studio five

i came home last night at 10:40 pm.i honestly was done with my studio presentation by 10:30 the night before it was due. no all-nighters necessary!!! it still blows my mind that after spending a week and half at school till 3 and 4 in the morning last semester that i never stayed up later than 1 am only one night on my studio project this term.

am i superwoman? i think so. actually, this semester was organized much differently than previous studios. in a normal term we work all semester long and EVERYTHING is compiled and presented the last week of school. this term however has been a progression of a few presentations/due dates. our conceptual presentation was a few weeks into the semester- a loose combination of sketches, ideas and finishes to get our idea across. after developing that concept for a few more weeks we basically are taking that same information and showing it again, at a more finalized level (but still not thorough in the technical side). it really was not as much work as i thought it would be- plotting a bazillion elevations i had worked on the last few weeks, finalizing the same finishes as before, sketching a few more renderings to add to ones already done, and then compiling the smallest pres. board ever.

so i say all this thinking i am so on top of things..let’s hope it is adequate for the presentation today in a few hours! and then starting today i get to submerse myself in cad for the rest of the project- drawing electrical plans, demolition plans, reflected ceiling, and more!!! sounds like a blast. but the good part- i get to just turn in a set of drawings without standing in front of the jury anymore.

now it’s on to my mural, some drawings for my side job, the wedding and finishing the condo!

also what’s going on: justin is here!!! wil’s & my dear friend is visiting for a few days from california on his spring break. we are both so excited to just hang out with him and show him around. that was another plus of being done so early… i must have had the subconscious motivation of getting done fast so i could hang out with him.

even though i don’t have a garage

well, it’s been a few days, so you’d think something exciting would have happened to talk about, but nothing did, so i am without a topic. i will just give you an update on my life at home the last few days…
wil and i are starting to paint and move his stuff in little by little. no, i take that back…he moved his stuff all at once. my house is an absolute battle zone right now…if there is a fire in here, i will surely not make it out with this stuff everywhere. my favorite part of moving around the house is squeezing through the 12 inches of space between the new mattresses and the wall at the top of the stairs. i posted some pictures of us painting what will be our new master bedroom, as well as evidence to what will drive me to insanity shortly.
i can’t do any laundry because the mattresses are in front of the washer and dryer. i can’t reach 85% of my clothes because of the dresser in the closet. and i can’t vacuum or clean because frankly, i can’t see the floor. my world is upside down!!!
but much to my relief we will be participating in a huge neighborhood-wide garage sale on saturday. my coworker lives in the largest subdivision in franklin and once a year the entire neighborhood has a dawn to dusk sale. with all the new items from the wedding and duplicates of moving two people in together, we decided to take advantage of her yard/garage and throw some of our stuff in there. maybe we’ll make a little money…or maybe we’ll just get rid of some stuff! hopefully, by moving some of that out we’ll be able to situate the rooms a bit better for wil to move in after the wedding; and maybe we’ll see the floor again too. we just have to restrain ourselves and not buy too much of everyone else’s junk!
