back from a break

so it’s been a while since i’ve posted, but i have an excuse…
i went home last wednesday to do wedding stuff (and to just take a break for spring break). it was great lounging at home, not getting ready till 12 or 1 pm every day, and being with the family. we did get a lot done though. we made lists, lists and more lists just basically to prepare ourselves for the wedding. no thought went unwritten! i started and practically filled a notebook in the weekend just with little notes and drawings of things to keep in mind. it felt good to be so on top of things…trying on the dress (i’d talk about it, but i am afraid i would get carried away with too much information!), allocating jobs, visiting the sites, listening to the music, stuffing invites, and buying the little odd necessities. it’s amazing how many things you have to take into account…and once something is decided on, another thing to consider is right behind it ready for your attention.
i had my second shower on friday night thrown by my wonderful patti and brandi. it was so nice, and just so fun and relaxing. although the first shower was fun and so special, it was crazy seeing so many people at once (many after a few years had passed). this most recent one was much more quiet and intimate…and lots more jokes cracked around the room. i am continually amazed at how so many people are so loving and giving to me and wil!
unfortunately i had one of my worst nights ever while at home, sleeping next to a toilet due to the flu (which i have yet to figure out where it came from). that really knocked me out for a good portion of the next day, but luckily, i was still able to manage assembling invites while watching a mythbusters marathon (did you know that is one of my latest obsessions? i can’t get enough of that show!). i thank god for a quick recovery; i didn’t have to fly home sick.
and then, after a long day of traveling and a delayed flight i got to see my love. no matter where i am at or with whom, i am always ready to come home to wil and have him give me a big hug at the airport. i can’t wait to have that every night of the week!
love to everyone…

four jobs at once

i was recently prospectively “hired” to draw conceptual sketches/architectural line drawings/renderings; whenever they were needed i would be the one to call. so i was called! and until wednesday i am working on some elevations and perspectives for a local designer (who works with my friend/classmate- thus the connection and offer). i got to name my price and work by the hour. woot!
so tonight, i very excitedly created a card and invoice for my new “business.” how geeky am i!?
here at the beginning of the term i thought i was barely doing anything by only going to three classes; on top of school, i work at my internship, in the admissions office, am painting on commission till may for the county and now drawing on the side! not to mention wil and i go to community group once a week and will soon be meeting for premarital stuff another night for 6 weeks. you wonder how i have time to even post a blog entry…

a quick update

the trees are flowering! and it’s sunny! and warm! i’ve loved seeing the blossoms all over in whites, pinks, yellows and even purples. and i have particularly grown fond of being able to have all the windows open all day and all night. it’s great having an actual spring to enjoy.
so wil announced to me that he is going to go vegan…for only two weeks that is. he has a journalism-type assignment for writing regarding the idea of actually experiencing something personally so that you can write about it. this should be interesting, obviously for him to cut out all animal products, but for me as well to be completely conscious of it and help keep him on track while he hangs out at my house. i can sense a few vegan meals for myself too…it’s harder than you’d think…cutting out animal biproducts not only in your diet, but in the clothes you wear, shampoos you use (testing on animals), and even in the down bedding you may have. my best friend cassie is a vegan and she is quite excited to pass on information to wil to help him “see the light.” be sure to read his site in the next couple weeks as he will be journaling about it frequently.
something on my plate this week- i recently took a job through my school to paint a 9′ by 3′ mural for an upcoming tourist display/center at the williamson county archives (among a few other students). we each have one mural on a different historical topic. besides the fact that this project has been utter chaos in the last few days, it’s nice to start getting into it. i have always loved painting and always claimed it to be a favorite hobby of mine, but i never seem to actually do it in my spare time. starting this mural has totally rekindled that passion…i forgot how therapuetic the rhythm of the brush strokes are and how relaxing manipulating a blank canvas could be to me. i will try to possibly post pictures of my progress along the way for those i cannot easily show in real life.
i am officially on spring break as of 2:15 this afternoon! although, it hasn’t quite hit me yet. and well, i can’t really think about being on a break when i still have to get up at 7 to go to work tomorrow and next week. but i am quite excited about going home for a few days. it is going to be a kamikaze week in wedding planning; i’ll be starting my dress fittings, addressing invitations, and meeting with vendors, plus a shower to top it off! i also can’t wait to see family yet again. i have been quite spoiled this semester with the wedding because i get to travel and see my family way more often than i would in a normal semester at school. so great.
well, those basically are the only things this past week that are worth mentioning. everything else is pretty hum drum normal. we’ll see what the weekend brings us…wil is taking me out to try sushi. yum! (possibly)
oh yeah, and happy st. patricks day…

prepare to be bored

so, it’s been a few days since i have written anything. i keep sitting down and drawing a blank on what to write.
i guess here’s an update on my life this week: (disclaimer- prepare to be bored)
i missed wil the first few days while he was up in rhode island. it was a little bit easier knowing he was having fun with cj, but i still was lonely without him. i got to pick him up on wednesday. woot!
while walking through the rows of drafting tables in my design studio, i got a bit too close to one and caught the corner of the metal pencil tray, ripping a big fatty hole in the side of my pants (quite close to the back pocket!). luckily it did not expose anything too personal, but it was risque enough to require my hand to cover it the rest of the day. and of course, it was on my craziest day of the week, where i couldn’t go home and change until about 7  that night! r.i.p my very loved jeans…
i stumbled upon two rolls of very old film in the bag of my manual camera…so old that at the time, i had no idea what was on them. so, out of curiosity i had them developed; today i was able to see them online! it was quite fun to see them for a couple reasons: one, there were some cool pictures in there i now remember taking…two: i never realized that film can go “bad” after a while (these rolls were at least 2 years old)…and three: i really think the age and corrosion of the film really works for my b&w photos; it gives them a certain look i would have never been able to do on purpose (it is kind of hard to see on the web). anyways, those are posted under “artsy.”
i found out this week the future cause of my death: thank you notes. i am preparing to tell wil tonight that he shouldn’t expect me to live much longer than the honeymoon, because i will have written myself to death in thank you cards for all the wedding gifts. i am honestly sooo grateful for the generosity and encouragement from family and friends, but it’s crazy hard to sit and write 35 thank you cards in a row and still claim your sanity. i finished mine from the recent shower last night, but i think i lost a few years of my life.
speaking of the shower, for those who like to look at my photos (i hope those people exist), i am planning on posting more from that weekend, but hold tight, as i am waiting to upload the rest off of cassie’s camera…she did much better at taking photos that week than i did.
and last, wil and i went grocery shopping at 11:30 last night…i was interesting…like we were sneaking in after hours, even though my kroger is 24 hours. it was nice that it wasn’t busy, but none of the lights were on in the fridges/freezers and there were lots of boxes and crates everywhere- hard to manuever with a cart. but i guess, that’s what being in college is for: a real midnight snack. i highly recommend the experience to others.
oh and the lesson for this week: being rich and famous does not automatically make someone have good taste.
